No Hrithik or Abhishek yet for ‘Agneepath’ remake: Karan Johar

Mumbai, There have been speculations about who will play the male lead in the remake of the 1990 hit “Agneepath”. While the names of Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan popped up, filmmaker Karan Johar clarifies that no one has been finalised to play the part Amitabh Bachchan immortalised in the original.
“I haven’t made any statement whatsoever around the man who would eventually be playing the role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan that was made
iconic by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. All I have said is that, yes, we are going ahead with a remake of ‘Agneepath’ and that’s about it,” Johar told IANS.
Whether it is Hrithik, Abhishek or someone else, Johar must be having a wish list?
“Well, the wish list is to get the screenplay right. For the moment nothing else is more important than that,” he said.
Even though the film is being produced under the banner of Dharma Productions, Johar won’t be going behind the camera for the movie.
“True, I would be stepping aside and the film would be directed by Karan Malhotra, who has assisted me on ‘My Name Is Khan’. That’s the only thing which has been finalised… everything else you hear is mere speculation. We will finalise the cast once the script is locked. Currently, it is still in the process of being written,” he added.
Malhotra is not really a novice when it comes to filmmaking. He has earlier worked as an assistant director with Ashutosh Gowariker on “Jodhaa Akbar”, Farah Khan on “Main Hoon Na”, Farhan Akhtar on “Lakshya” and Raj Kumar Santoshi “Lajja and Pukar” amongst others.
Since it is close to two decades since the release of “Agneepath”, would the remake have a different milieu to it?
“Certainly! We are adapting the film from the original, but ours would be a new age version that would fit in well with today’s time. We really hope that we are able to do justice to the original and make the remake exciting for today’s generation,” Johar said.
Dharma Productions, meanwhile, has as many as seven films that are in different stages of production. These are “My Name Is Khan”, “Wake Up Sid”, “Kurbaan”, “Koochie Koochie Hota Hai”, remakes of Hollywood flick “Stepmom” and “Agneepath” and “I Hate Love Stories”.
How is he managing it all?
“Believe me, it’s not difficult at all. All you have to do is to follow a three-point mantra – delegation, outsourcing and trust. Along with that, if you have the right vision and infrastructure in place, which we do have in Dharma Productions, it isn’t difficult to crack it all.
“That’s the way you manage things and I have been fortunate enough to have a team with which it has become possible to helm a number of projects at the same time,” said Johar.
Among the seven films, three are ready to hit the screens.
“‘Wake Up Sid’ is all set to arrive on Oct 2. ‘Kurbaan’ will come in late November. Other than that, we are looking at an early 2010 release for ‘My Name Is Khan’. Yes, these have been busy and really exciting times,” the filmmaker said.

Abhishek & Aishwarya hide in the jungles of Kerala

Bollywood’s celebrity couple Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hardly get to spend some romantic time alone given their busy schedules but then this was the last thing they wanted as having to spend time alone in this manner.
It all happened on Wednesday in the jungles of Athirapilly in Kerala where they were shooting for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavan’. Abhi-Ash along with Mani Ratnam had gone to check out an elephant which was supposed to participate in the shooting from next week.
The elephant went out of control killing the mahout and taking off on a stampede. As a result, Abhishek, Aishwarya and Mani had to spend their time hiding in the jungles until people who could control the elephant and rescue the couple could reach.
They had to spend around ten hours without food or water until they were rescued late at night. But until then there was no news of their safety and wellbeing and not to mention here that Bachchan family and Aishwarya’s parents were very worried.
Given the amount of pains the unit has taken to shoot ‘Raavan’ right from director’s health scare to an elephant out on stampede to severe viral infections and malaria, this film, when released, will definitely make up for the efforts put in.

Abhishek Bachchan biography
Its easy to follow your father’s footsteps when he is the superstar of the millennium but very difficult to live upto that image if your work is compared to or expected to be as good as your father’s. That is how the filmography of Abhishek Bachchan began in 1999.
The only son of the veteran actor and the Big ‘B’ of bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan and actress, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek, was born on 5th Febuary 1976. He has one elder sister, Shweta Nanda. His high schooling was done in Switzerland and since then, Abhishek had a dream of becoming an actor.
Refugee, directed by J.P. Dutta, was Abhishek’s first film. He starred opposite new comer Kareena Kapoor. But this film was soon forgotten. Then came LOC, Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Shararat and Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost (opposite Lara Dutta). But all of them failed to give Abhishek the kind of recognition his father had. Then came a set of films that soon put Abhishek in the list of top ten actors. These were Dhoom, Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Bluffmaster and Dus. His roles in each of the film were different yet interesting. From the conman in Dhoom and Dus to the funny bluffer in Bunty aur Babli and Bluffmaster, Abhishek was accepted by both critics and audiences. He soon gained popularity and from now on people found lots of similarities between him and his superstar dad Amitabh.
On the personal front also, Abhishek was been in the news. He was engaged to Karisma Kapoor in 2002 but after few months they had broke up. Finally this year, he tied the knot to former Miss World and a super star, Aishwarya Rai, with whom he has done films like Dhoom 2 and Umrao Jaan.
Abhishek has quite a few films lined up as of now. His forthcoming film is a Yashraj film venture directed by Sanjay Gandhavi. Sarkar 2 and Krishh 2 are also in the following. He has a home production film with Apoorva Lakhia as well.
People who know him say that Abhishek is a prankster, humerous yet affectionate. He is a perfect blend of his parents whether it’s acting or real life.
